Some controversy exists around the roll that reverse T3 plays in illnesses of the thyroid. Some endocrinologists who specialise in treating hormone-based anomalies think that having knowledge of T3 makes no difference in the choice of treatment for thyroid disorders. However, other schools of thought suggest that reverse T3 is in fact the anti-thyroid standard.
RT3 (reverse T3) blood testing will measure T3 or Triiodothyronine in its inactive form. T 3 is one of the two main hormones that the thyroid produces, the other being thyroxine (T4). When everything is working normally our bodies will convert T4 into T3 and RT3 in ratios that are specific and allow for proper functioning of the thyroid.
The cost of a Reverse T3 (RT3) ranges from £156.
