Listeria blood test in the UK

A blood test for listeria is the best way to identify listeria infection. Spinal fluid and samples of urine can also be tested.

Treatment of Listeria

Listeria infection can vary and will have a range of symptoms and signs. Usually, mild symptoms need no treatment.  If the infection is more severe antibiotics will be used to treat the infection. If a patient is pregnant antibiotic treatment should be given so that the foetus is protected.

What you can take with you.

Write a list to these questions:

  • What symptoms do you have and when did you develop them?
  • Are you pregnant and if so, how many months?
  • Are you having treatment for another medical condition?
  • Do you take and supplements or medications and what are they?

You could keep a food diary and list the food you have eaten recently and don’t forget to mention any recalled items.
