in the case of the (ELF™) Enhanced Liver Fibrosis blood test a number will be produced through an algorithm that is used in cases of advanced fibrosis of the liver. It is used as a prognostic marker along with other findings from the laboratory and from clinical assessment in patients who have been found to have F3 or F4 advanced fibrosis from non-hepatic causes. This marker will indicate what the likelihood of the condition progressing to cirrhosis and other liver events will be. As this is a blood test rather than a more invasive biopsy, this test can easily be repeated as necessary.
This is a blood test that will measure the three molecules that are involved in metabolism by the liver and will reflect how severe any liver fibrosis is.
